VMware GSX Server compared to ESX Server.

Well now that VMware has released ESXi 3.5 as a free download to the public its hard to imagine why anyone would choose to run their servers on GSX server. GSX or VMware Server has mid performance running on a Windows host and better performance running on a Linux host. You can't really compare GSX to ESX, ESX just blows it out of the water! GSX server requires an OS to manage the virtualization, using standard file systems NTFS or EXT3 it is much less efficient than the real thing ESX. When ESX is installed on your hardware it applies virtualization directly to the hardware together with a specially architected file system "VMFS" makes ESX superior. Thanks to the guys at VMware for such a great product!!!

I run MS Virtual PC 2007 on my workstation and I like it. Its kinda like vm player but you can create VMs. I like that it is fast and easy to create VMs. Its good for a lab environment definetly not to run prod VMs.
